The cybersecurity industry is growing with tons of opportunity for everyone, and it is projected that there will be over 3.5 million cybersecurity jobs in the U.S. by 2021. In 2018 major companies suffered massive data breaches and it was reported that over 1.1 billion records had been compromised. The need for cybersecurity has never been greater and large organizations are desperate for talented hard-working cybersecurity professionals. The road to becoming a cybersecurity professional can be very overwhelming; however, it is very rewarding. The average salary of a cybersecurity professional is over $120,000 a year, which is three times the national average salary in the United States of America. In this article I will outline three major certifications that will help you become a cybersecurity professional, and help you join the rapidly growing cybersecurity industry.

Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)

To be able to understand the world of being a hacker you must be able to think as a criminal hacker. CEH uses ethical hacking or white hat hacking which is using malicious hacking tactics to improve cybersecurity. In order to achieve this CEH certification you must first pass the CEH V10 exam which 4 hours is long with approximately 125 multiple questions. The average median salary of some with a CEH certification is $95,000, and this certification will qualify you for jobs such as becoming a penetration tester, malware analyst, network security analyst, and many more!

Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

The CISSP certification is for those who are seeking a higher-level security position and it is rated to be one of the most popular certifications in the IT industry. The average median salary for obtaining the CISSP certification is rated to be around $105,000 per year! The CISSP is a global recognized certification which is held through ISC2, and after achieving this certification, you will be able to master cryptography, physical security, networking and telecommunications security. The CISSP certification contains a minimum of 100 questions using a testing system known as “CAT”.

CompTIA Security +

The Security + certification is a globalized certification which teaches you baseline security and to perform core security fundamentals towards your IT career. The average annual salary for security + is known to be approximately $72,000 per year depending on your IT career, but the most common positions are systems administrator, information security analyst, and network engineer.
