Boost Your Skills to Increase Cyber Security

The Current State

The demand for cyber security professionals continues to rapidly grow as new technologies are quickly deployed in today’s work environment. Implementing and supporting cyber security to keep pace with new tech and trends has been an ongoing issue that most organizations face. In CompTIA’s study, “Satisfaction with Company’s Cyber Security”, it's shown that the number of employees who were "Satisfied" with cyber security went down from 36% in 2020 to 29% in 2021, while the percentage of “Unsatisfied” rose from 5% in 2020 to 7% in 2021. These results expose increasing concerns regarding the security of systems within an organization.

The Threat of Negligence

It is important to be prepared and to apply safe practices towards sensitive information, as negligence can result in costly damages for an organization. As the use of new technologies grows, so does malicious activity. It is estimated that 350k new malware programs are found every day, so protecting your assets needs to be a top priority. On average, it takes 287 days to detect an attack, and the average cost of a data breach is reported to be $4.24 million. Organizations must have a strong security posture to quickly identify and contain data breaches or reduce them from happening.

How to Boost Skills

A strong cyber security posture begins with training employees and then gaining and maintaining their certifications. Receiving training on emerging threats like malware or phishing certainly is a beneficial starting point for any organization. More value can be achieved for those employees who already have a basic understanding of security concepts but are not fully up to date with new and relevant security threats. A course like CompTIA’s Security+ guarantees exposure to the latest trends in security and is an excellent entry point for employee certifications.
