CASP or CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner is an advanced level certification that is offered by CompTIA and it has become a highly recognized and reputable cybersecurity certification. CASP+ is also approved by the DoD 8570.01 mandate, and it covers several advanced cybersecurity techniques and procedures. This certification is recommended for those who have a minimum of two years’ work experience in the cybersecurity/IT industry; however, there are no required pre-requisites to certify for CASP+. Many organizations and corporations are actively searching for certified cybersecurity professionals, and the CASP+ certification shows employers that you are proficient in everything technical and that you can work within a team of analysts or engineers.
1. Know the Exam
The CASP CAS-003 exam covers many different domains and focuses on the technical side of cybersecurity, unlike the CISSP certification which focuses on managerial aspects of cybersecurity. The CASP exam will contain key topics such as implementing security policies, risk management security operations, and how to integrate enterprise-level security within an organization. The exam can last a total of 165 minutes and consists of 90 questions. The CASP exam will also use simulation-based questions that will require some more effort and time, but it is always important to take your time and use all the time allotted to ensure all questions are answered and reviewed.
2. Study the Domains
The CASP CAS-003 exam covers 5 different domains and each domain is weighted differently. The five domains are as followed:
Domain 1: Risk Management 19%
Domain 2: Enterprise Security Architecture 25%
Domain 3: Enterprise Security Operations 20%
Domain 4: Technical Integration of Enterprise Security 23%
Domain 5: Research, Development, and Collaboration 13%
The easiest way to cover all these domains is to study each individual domain and then perform a self-assessment to find out which ones you are confident in, and which domains may require some more attention. There may be some overlap on the domains, but it is still important to take your time and study each one to ensure you are proficient.
3. Take a Practice Test
The best way to see if you are ready to take the CAS-003 exam is by taking a practice quiz. CompTIA will actually give some free practice questions relating to the CASP exam if you fill out a small form on their website. The practice questions can be found by going on their website or by clicking here.
4. Rest Well and Stay Focused!
This is probably really simple advice that everyone as heard before a big exam but trust me it works. Being well-rested and eating a light breakfast will help you greatly and studies have shown that stretching, taking deep breaths, and drinking water help with focus and generates better results.
