How Can a CISSP Certification Advance Your Cybersecurity Career?

The Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) from the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2, is arguably the most recognized certification in the cybersecurity industry. The reason why this certification is so valuable to those who earn is that it shows employers that candidates can successfully use creative thinking to design and implement many different cybersecurity techniques. The CISSP certification is a must have certification for anyone who is in the cybersecurity industry and in this article, I will go over three major reasons why.

1. Recognition

The CISSP certification is recognized internationally and is a key differentiator between employers. This certification has been recognized by many different organizations such as Google, IBM, and even the U.S. government. This shows that employers are actively looking for candidates with a CISSP certification because it shows employers that candidates have extensive knowledge in information security, and it allows those who earn the CISSP to quickly move up in an organization and achieve a higher salary.

2. Earnings

The average salary of someone with a CISSP certification is $120,000 and that number is expected to grow even higher in 2019. The reason why employers are willing to pay such a high salary to those with this certification is that candidates who earn the CISSP are also more likely to pursue further education and achieve more; however, CISSP certification is not easily earned. The CISSP exam requires extensive training and it uses a Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) which allows a more precise grader scale and a totally unique exam tailored to each individual. The exam also consists of 150 questions and has a time limit of three hours; however, this should not be discouraging because many people do not self-exam for this exam, but they use a training service such as SecureNinja to help pass them.

3. Growing Demand for Cybersecurity Professionals

CISSP is always going to be a world-renowned certification and will be a well-performing certification and it is more evident than ever before. Employers use CISSP certification to differentiate candidates for employment because the CISSP exam shows employers that candidates have a full grasp of everything its security and have extensive knowledge in cybersecurity and data breach prevention methods. The cybersecurity industry has over 300,000 unfilled jobs currently and that number is expected to grow even larger within the next decade. The CISSP certification can propel anyone’s IT career to the next level, and it is also the best place to start for anyone looking to get into the cybersecurity industry.
